I’ve spent a lot of today looking at baby pictures of my two children. I’m not really sure why. It might have something to do with the fact that they’re with their grandparents right now – and have been since yesterday morning – to give me the chance to catch up with work… There was also a grand plan to clean the house somewhere amongst the freedom too, but that has been rather thwarted by the dog ending up at the vets.
Anyway, I digress. Whilst perusing through all of their gorgeous, teeny photos, the memories of all of H-Bear’s sleepless nights came flooding back:
The bags under my eyes.
The sheer amount of coffee consumed.
And of course, the crying.
There was so much crying (from us both); his silent reflux, and a delayed diagnosis of CMPA and a soya allergy meant that he wasn’t the happiest of babies.
Of course, not every baby cries because they have an allergy or reflux. There are so many reasons why a baby might be crying, and because they can’t talk, it’s their only way of communicating with you… which can feel incredibly relentless at times.
Colic is a big reason for crying in babies.
Busby suffered from mild colic at set times of the day (usually around 4-6pm) from a couple of months old, but it went pretty swiftly. We tried lots of different remedies to see whether anything would help her discomfort.
The new Colica ® Colic Granules from Nelsons look fantastic.
Nelsons Colica ® Colic Granules are a homeopathic medicinal product which can be used to relieve the symptoms of colic. They’re designed for babies over one month of age. The granules contain a unique formulation of 30c potencies of natural Citrullus colocynthis and Dioscorea villosa.
What is colic?
Colic is the medical term for excessive and frequent crying in a baby who appears to be otherwise healthy and well-fed. It usually begins within the first few weeks of life, but often stops between 4-6 months of age. In most cases, the intense crying occurs in the late afternoon (as it did with Busby).
Baby may clench their fists and draw their knees up to their tummy or arch their back. Although, please note that this can also be a sign of reflux or an allergy, so it’s always best to get your baby checked out if you’re concerned it might be something other than colic.
The Nelsons Colica ® Colic Granules are available to buy from Superdrug now. To find out more about the granules, please visit NelsonsBaby.com.
Did your little one suffer from colic?
Oh I wish these had been around when James was a baby! Every night from around 5 he would have a major screaming fit for at least an hour! Luckily During the week I was at my mums a lot so had a few extra pairs of hands!
I feel very fortunate that neither of mine suffered from colic. Zach had a bit of reflux but nothing severe. I have read so many things about how awful it is but can’t imagine how bad it is to watch your baby suffer with it.
Both of mine did and cried so much this sounds great xx
Neither of my girls suffered with colic luckily, I have many friends who had colicky baby’s and they make the early days so challenging. I really feel for them and anything which could help reduce the misery for parents and child is worth trying.
I can totally relate to this post, silent reflux, CMPA and colic here too. Some fantastic tips here, it really is difficult to think straight when you are going through it x
