Adventures // Kilnsea Wetlands

Beach Sunday was a bit of a disaster this week! We decided to head to a beach about an hour South from us called Easington, which had been recommended a few times. Easington village was lovely, but as we pulled up to the beach we discovered that part of the cliff had collapsed.

There was still an accessible path down onto the beach though, so we got out of the car, donned our wellies, and picked up the kids’ buckets and spades that they’d been desperate to bring this week…

As we made our descent onto the beach, the path was covered in dog poo (not a great start) and the beach itself was covered in litter, the sand filthy (oil?), and there was even more dog poo. There were also people fishing, and after being at the vets recently and hearing about a puppy who got a fish hook stuck in his mouth, I was not massively keen on staying. So we herded two very disappointed children and a puppy back into the car.

After having a car picnic (always a winner) and listening to another round of The Greatest Showman, we tried to drive to Spurn Point as it’s supposed to be beautiful. But sadly it was closed for high tide and also had a ‘NO DOGS’ sign up…

Not wanting to give up and come home, we had a little drive around the area and came across Kilnsea Wetlands, which is run by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. The car park was free, so we decided to get out and explore.

H-Bear has an awful cough at the moment, so he wasn’t in the most helpful of moods, but he soon warmed up to the idea of a walk when he discovered a wall he could jump off. It’s the small things.

I loved the contrast of blue lakes, tall grass and the sea in the distance. It was a fab place to have a walk and we even did a little swan spotting!

Hopefully we’ll be back at the beach for Beach Sunday next week!

I’ve made another little video featuring snapshots from our weekend. Saturday was ‘Cupcake Day’ according to Busby, so we did some colouring and played some cupcake-related games! And then Sunday was filmed at Kilnsea Wetlands.

That’s such a shame that the beach was a disappointment, it’s sad to see a beach littered. Well don’t for turning the day around and finding this gem of a place x
