Adventures // Danes Dyke, East Yorkshire

‘Beach Sunday’ has really taken off in our household! We are thoroughly enjoying visiting a new beach every weekend, and yesterday saw us explore Danes Dyke – which is about a 60 minute drive from our village.

Danes Dyke had been recommended to me through my #WhereMyWelliesTakeMe hashtag on Instagram (thank you @tcnads!) and I have to admit that it might be my favourite Yorkshire beach so far.

I have this dream where we move to the coast, the children spend the days rockpooling in fairisle knits, and we are on a permanent adventure. Enid Blyton meets Swallows and Amazons – only I tag along too!

Danes Dyke was the sort of beach I had always envisaged in these dreams, so I was a bit excited when we arrived.

Located in between Bridlington and Flamborough, Danes Dyke is a beautiful nature reserve, with a steep track down to the beach. The beach itself is set against dramatic white chalk cliffs, with amazing white pebbles everywhere. There were rock pools to explore, other families were fossil hunting and best of all – the weather was so mild that the children and I discarded our coats on the pebbles and explored in just our jumpers.

Spring is on the way!

When we first arrived, the sky was oddly hazy and a bit misty. That soon lifted though and the sun was gorgeously warm.

Busby lost her first tooth in the early hours of Sunday morning (and swallowed it!), so she was proudly showing her gap off to everyone!

I set Nick up with my camera again and he took some gorgeous photos of me with the children! I’m very much enjoying training him up (and I think/hope he’s enjoying it too!). #InstagramHusband!

Not only does Danes Dyke have an incredible beach, it has the best of both worlds with the nature reserve at the top of the track. We’re looking forward to going back and exploring the woods soon!

I can see us spending many days at Danes Dyke – especially as the weather gets a bit warmer. We’re going to take our buckets, spades and nets for sand castle building and rock pooling next time.

It looks gorgeous! Much as I love the beaches here in Sussex the more northerly beaches are quick striking and dramatic with their cliffs and fossil potential! Love that one of you four strolling across the beach!

That beach looks amazing, I love the white stones. My daughter is very sensitive to the cold so our visits to the beach this winter have been very brief! She does love sliding down the banks of pebbles though. #ourweekendhappy
