The first haircut always feels like such a momentous milestone. I’ve been cutting H-Bear’s hair myself for the past year or so, but it’s been getting rather out of hand recently. More Jonathan Byers than the Will Byers I was aiming for…
He didn’t want to sit still for me, and when he did, he would fidget lots… which meant that each cut kept getting more and more uneven. I had thought about popping a bowl on his head and cutting around it (the novelty of the situation probably would have kept him entertained for about 5 minutes!), but I decided it was time to call in the professionals.
So last week, I took him to our local village hairdressers – Naomi Jackson Hairdressing – for his first official haircut. I have my haircut here, as does Busby, and everyone who works there is so lovely.
I think having your child’s haircut for the first time feels like such a big deal because, in a roundabout way, you grew that hair. And it’s a huge step into the big wide world of independence… with H-Bear being my youngest, it feels even more bittersweet!
I was quite anxious about how H-Bear would react to someone else cutting his hair, but I needn’t have worried; he was an absolute superstar!
He sat wonderfully still while Leonnie trimmed and I think he rather enjoyed the experience.
Leonnie was brilliant with him! I think H-Bear was quite taken with her, as he keeps asking me whether we can go back and see “Eeonnie”.
Doesn’t his cut look so cute?!
Thank you so much to Leonnie for such a gorgeous cut and for being fabulous. We’ll be back in two weeks for Busby’s next cut!
Ah what a gorgeous haircut. Your photos are beautiful too and H Bear looks very proud! xx
Aww bless him, he looks utterly delighted. We are still to brave our first hair cut. I have no idea at all how I am going to keep him still enough x
Ah ridiculous cute! It’s such a milestone in their little life x
He looks like he thoroughly enjoyed that! Arlo always sits stock-still and good as gold (for once) in the barbers chair, it’s like he knows he could get a nip if he dares move an inch!
That’s so lovely that you all get your hair done at the same place. I struggle to ever get the time to get mine done. M didn’t get her hair cut until she was nearly 4 I think as she was scared of the hairdressers, then she went to the place where you get to sit in a car, watch Peppa Pig and then you get loads of sweets afterwards. At age 6 she still refuses to go anywhere else. I doubt Little will have enough hair to need a hair cut for at least another year…
