Adventures // Skidby Mill and Barmston Beach

We’ve had such a busy weekend! I’m writing this on Sunday evening, yawning away on our bed while my (very hot) bath runs.

It has been so wonderful; we’ve had tons of fresh air, the children have walked miles with us, (I’d say without complaining, but that would be a fib!) and the dog is well and truly shattered!

Saturday

Busby had her musical theatre class trial first thing on Saturday morning, so we were up with the larks, which we discovered was a fantastic way to get stuff done (and meant that Waitrose was fully stocked with freshly baked bread for lunch!). The weather was a bit pants, but never ones to be dissuade by a bit of rain, we togged up, jumped in the car and headed up to Skidby Mill.

We all got very muddy…

We ended up doing a loop, through the fields, through Skidby village (which is beautiful – complete house goals!) and then back to the car park! Bertie had the best time, and the children had fun until they went super tired.

Sunday

Sunday’s have become ‘Beach Sunday’, where we pile in the car and explore a new Yorkshire beach once a week. This week we decided to check out Barmston beach, after one of my school mum friends suggested visiting.

The weather was beautiful on Sunday (a bit of a contrast to Saturday!). And although the initial drive through a caravan park wasn’t exactly scenic, the beach itself was stunning – and SO empty!

We arrived during low tide and I couldn’t get over how much sand there was… and the clouds were just something else!

Bertie face-planted into a deep rock pool as soon as we arrived… and then H-Bear did the same – ending up with very soggy wellies for a second week running!

We had another ‘character building’ picnic and spent the rest of the afternoon running around; finding jellyfish, writing our names in the sand and having a wonderful time.

It was quite difficult to find an exit to the beach (!), but we all scrambled up some rocks and found ourselves on the most beautiful coastal walk back to the car… where H-Bear had a full change of clothes, and we ate homemade biscuits with the heating on!!!

I’ve done something a little different this week and have made a short video of snapshots from our weekend. Busby was off sick on Friday, and we were watching random things on YouTube and talking about making videos. She asked whether we could make a video of our weekend, so I agreed. For someone who was very enthusiastic initially, she wasn’t massively keen on being in the footage while I was filming – so as Nick said, it’s turned into the ‘H-Bear and Bertie Show’… but nonetheless, it was fun to make – and my two toddlers (the fluffy one and the not-as fluffy one) are pretty cute!

Did you have a good weekend?

Ahhh I love a good character building picnic! My mum always used to insist on them when we were younger and I loved and hated them in equal part… nothing quite like accidentally biting your frozen fingers as you cling to a tuna sarnie, is there?! How did the theatre class trial go? Will she go back? Also, the photo of your dog mid run is just brilliant!! x

Your photos are so beautiful! We are normally the opposite if I’m honest, shell shocked at the sight of rain and huddle in doors, but we swapped things up last week and headed out for a wet welly walk and I’ve never loved anything more, regret so many weekends spent inside now. The rock pool incident made me laugh, it’s typical isn’t it? Glad you had a lovely weekend!

Oh I just love this. Those open fields look great and Barmston beach is one of my favourite beaches! I adore the idea of exploring a new beach each Sunday, I may have to start doing the same! x
