Adventures // Bluestone, Wales (Part Two)

A couple of weeks ago, we were kindly invited to stay in Wales with Bluestone on their wonderful family friendly resort in Pembrokeshire.

Wednesday 20th June 2018

We headed over to the Blue Lagoon on Wednesday morning. The Blue Lagoon is a fantastic, all-weather water park on the Bluestone campus. Entry is free to Bluestone residents and you can go as many times as you like during your stay.

I didn’t take any photos while we were there as I wasn’t sure whether I’d be allowed, and also, I didn’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

We spent all morning there. Busby had the best time going down the four flumes (with Nick in tow), while H-Bear and I rode the Lazy River countless times. He LOVED the Lazy River and the independence of being floated along.

The wave pool was a huge hit with everyone! And the wave alarm caused much excitement – as did the jets of water afterwards!

For younger customers, there’s a baby pool full of plastic balls and things to play on. This was a little old for Busby, but H-Bear enjoyed himself. There was also a shallow pool filled with water fountains and jets you could stand under (although we didn’t spend much time in here as it was quite cold!).

The Blue Lagoon has a café, which I was very thankful for during a moment of pregnancy nausea!

No one wanted to leave the Blue Lagoon, but it was swiftly approaching lunch time and we resembled prunes, so we headed back to the lodge for bacon sandwiches before driving to Saundersfoot, where we spent the afternoon.

The sun finally appeared, as the children made sandcastles and ate ice cream (thank you to the staff in the Mermaid Gift Shop – excellent ice cream and very helpful when sorting out an ice cream that H-Bear could have!). We went rockpooling and found jellyfish, crabs and anemones. The children were fascinated with the anemones!

An amazing lady came up to us on the beach and said “Your child is so fascinated by her surroundings and nature!” It was one of those moments when I knew we’d done the right thing taking Busby out of school for a few days – she learnt so much more than she would have done sat in the classroom.

The afternoon went far too quickly, and we decided to grab some takeaway fish and chips from Marina, Fish, Chips and More and eat them on the beach. It was idyllic and an adventure we will remember for years to come.

The day ended with the most beautiful sunset over Bluestone.

Thursday 21st June 2018

It was our last day at Bluestone, so we decided to head to Tenby for another wander in the morning.

We found ourselves on Castle Beach, which was really beautiful. The sun shone, the sea sparkled and we paddled in the sea.

Afterwards (and unfortunately), due to school, we had to check out of Bluestone. The team were fantastic letting us take the car down to check out early. And so we packed up and returned to Yorkshire.

The children were so sad to be leaving – as were we! We had the most wonderful few days at Bluestone and wish we could have had a whole week so we could continue exploring. We didn’t get the chance to visit the Adventure Centre nor the spa.

We would definitely recommend a visit to Bluestone. There’s so much to do, without feeling too forced or penned in. Plus with gorgeous beaches like Tenby and Saundersfoot just down the road, it’s the perfect location for families who love both the sea and the woods.

All of the other families staying at Bluestone seemed lovely and friendly, and the staff were so accommodating and helpful.
