Baking a Bun // 21 weeks pregnant

Sunday 22nd July 2018

I turn 21 weeks today! And we have our ’20 week’ NHS scan later. I’m looking forward to getting it out of the way; hopefully Bun is still a girl and everything is ok.

Bun is the size of a baseball cap today and weighs around 350g. I’m definitely starting to feel her kicks ramp up.

So the scan didn’t exactly go to plan yesterday! I’ve written about it in more detail here, but we ended up having to go back for another scan with a consultant this lunchtime. The consultant was amazing and everything is absolutely fine with Bun, which is a huge relief! The past 24 hours have been very difficult, but I’m so glad everything is ok… and that Bun is most definitely a girl. I can keep all the beautiful things I’ve already bought!

I have a feeling that the summer holidays are going to make the next 5 weeks of pregnancy go VERY quickly, as I’m only just sitting down to write the rest of this week’s update now.

We haven’t stopped this week – which has been great for keeping the kids entertained, but less so for resting. I’m feeling it this evening, with a stonking headache and the temptation to fall asleep on the sofa whilst watching the new season of Orange is the New Black is strong. Nick has been amazing this weekend – letting me sleep for as long as I need to in the mornings.

Cravings this week have mostly been cake-related. I’ve been all about the chocolate cake (my friend Megan made an incredible one on Monday!), but I’ve also wanted dolly mixture again and lots of juice. I also spent a small fortune on Tea Pigs herbal teas today…

The kids and I went into Hull yesterday as I had a radio interview on BBC Humberside (pre-recorded – should be live on Monday night if I wasn’t too rubbish!), which was really great. I was so nervous beforehand, especially taking both children with me. But they were fantastically behaved; even if the train was unbearably hot on the way back.

My feet have been swelling quite a bit this week, so I’ve been very thankful for the paddling pool and Nick’s awesome foot massages in the evenings! Rain is predicted tomorrow, so although I am loving this weather, I’m looking forward to a day of respite from the giant feet and the “what do I wear that isn’t just knickers?” predicament!
