Baking a Bun // 27 weeks pregnant

Sunday 2nd September 2018

27 weeks today and exactly three months to go until my due date! Eek! Bun is the size of a bunch of bananas this week, and weighs around 900g.

Busby has gone back to school this week and H-Bear has started preschool, so I haven’t had many opportunities to get much writing done! There has been A LOT of walking though and my legs and hips are suffering quite a bit. I’m glad to be back in a routine however, and we truly are on the final countdown to meet Bun. I’m so excited!

I had a minor allergic reaction to a wasp sting on my leg on Tuesday morning (just as I was getting ready to take Busby to school! Typical!). My calf swelled up and was dreadfully itchy and painful for 48 hours. I ended up having to call the midwife to ask whether I could take an antihistamine to relieve the pain… thankfully she said I could and it’s been so much better since then. But I was starting to get quite worried as my leg kept spasming. Not ideal – especially with all of the school run walking!

I haven’t really had any food cravings this week; they’ve mostly been smell cravings… which Nick thinks is hilarious. For example, Aldi antibacterial wipes. They smell incredible and I spent a good 30 minutes wiping down surfaces in our house yesterday to make the room smell of them. Also, I’m rather enjoying the smell of bleach.

We have our 4D scan at Window to the Womb in Doncaster tomorrow morning, and I can’t wait!! I’ve never had a 4D scan before and I’ve heard some lovely things. I’m going to be writing a full review of our experience next week. I just can’t wait to see her little face… I think it’s really going to help us with naming her. Also, it makes everything feel even more real. I’ve been trying to sort out travel systems and hypnobirthing top up sessions this week, and I still can’t quite believe that we’re going to be holding little Bun in our arms soon. I am so ridiculously thankful.

Wow! Our 4D scan was incredible! The images are so clear and she looked just like Busby (with hints of H-Bear). It’s made me even more excited to meet her now! And has definitely helped me with her name… although Nick is still unsure.

The children loved seeing her too, and H-Bear kept asking me “why is the baby in water?”. Both children agreed that the gel the sonographer put on my bump was “yucky”! I’ll be writing about our 4D scan in more detail this week on the blog, but I’ll finish this update with one of the photos of Bun from today. The third trimester starts tomorrow…!
