Baking a Bun // 34 weeks pregnant

Sunday 21st October 2018

34 weeks today! Bun is the size of a savoy cabbage and weighs around 5lbs.

I’ve woken up feeling utterly rotten – I think I’ve been over-doing a little it this week… It’s a good job next week is quiet. Oh, wait! It’s half term… and not quiet at all!

I have a cough and haven’t stopped drinking water all day, which I’m hoping will stave off any impending sore throats! I always seem to get poorly around this gestation. It must be the baby taking all of my resources and having final growth spurts.

Not in the least bit sexy, but keeping it real on here, I’ve been suffering from the most awful piles. My bottom has been so sore and I’ve been in agony. I don’t remember having this in Busby or H-Bear’s pregnancies, but it is not comfortable in the slightest! Oddly, drinking orange juice seems to make it worse. As does sitting on cold surfaces. I might walk around with a hot water bottle permanently attached to my bottom for the next few weeks…

I’ve had really strong Braxton Hicks throughout the night and today. This little baby is prepping herself! In fact, hypno-breathing through the contractions this evening made me feel SO excited as it won’t be long until these are real contractions and she’ll be here! I haven’t felt excited for labour much so far, but this brought all of my hypnobirthing training into the forefront of my mind and I found myself feeling extremely positive about her arrival.

Tuesday 23rd October 2018

I woke up in the middle of the night with milk-soaked t-shirt! This never happened in Busby or H-Bear’s pregnancies, and it felt odd that I had no baby to attach to my boob to deal with it… It’s so close isn’t it? We’re off to the Lakes on Friday, so I’m hoping Bun stays put until we’re back! I wouldn’t be surprised if we have a November baby instead of a December one though with how things are moving along. As long as I’m full-term… because then I can still have my home birth!

Friday 26th October 2018

We’ve decided to head to the Lakes tomorrow instead of rushing up after school today. I feel happy about this decision as we wouldn’t have been prepared at all. Hoping for a swift journey tomorrow. I’m not enjoying being in the car anymore in this pregnancy… Not only is it painful and uncomfortable on my back, but I feel very anxious. In fact, my ideal scenario for the next few weeks would be to stay in a dark, cosy space, surrounded by pillows with an endless supply of chocolate-covered pretzels! A girl can dream…

Saturday 27th October 2018

We have arrived in the Lakes! The journey wasn’t too bad this morning – nor too painful. I brought a pillow with me, which I wedged behind my back for the journey and that seemed to elevate some of the bump pressure.

I can’t imagine it’s going to be a particularly quiet, restful week, but it does feel amazing to be in my happy place, surrounded by mountains. There’s a real sense of peace about being here and I feel energised. Hopefully I won’t walk myself into early labour! I need to remember to rest when I can… Definitely planning on spending our time here alternating between walking and lying in the bath!

Not much else to report really… 35 weeks tomorrow – it’s all going so quickly still!
