I’ve been pretty rubbish at writing this week. We’ve been in the Lake District for half term, which has been all kinds of wonderful, and consequently our days have been filled with walks and my evenings have mostly consisted of baths followed by early nights! But I’m here writing now…
This week Bun is the size of a bunch of carrots and weighs around 5-6lbs. I won’t lie; I have overdone it on holiday. We have climbed tall hills, clambered up steep steps next to waterfalls, and have been for walks lasting many miles. We are home now and I am tired. Very tired. The journey home today was rather uncomfortable. I was having contractions for most of the three hours in the car, and there were a few points where I wondered whether I should ask Nick to pull over and locate the nearest hospital.
When we got home, I went to the toilet and had a little bit of a bloody show. I’ve spent the afternoon resting in bed, trying to keep hydrated and conserving my energy in case she’s on her way. I’m keeping hydrated. I’m trying to eat as much as I can. The contractions have calmed down a fair amount. They’re still here intermittently, but nowhere near as frequently as they were coming in the car. Bun has been moving around lots too, so I’m hoping they were just hefty Braxton Hicks. Fingers crossed she stays put for a little while longer as I still have to wash all the baby clothes, paint her nursery and generally prep for her arrival!
This week I’ve mostly been craving chocolate and sweet things. Also, randomly, sprouts!
I slept surprisingly well away from home in the Lakes, although it did help that the bed was incredibly comfortable and we were so tired from walking each day!
On our return home, I’ve received another mysterious appointment letter to see a consultant… No information regarding the appointment, just a summons to the hospital for next week. Sigh. I have a midwife appointment on Monday so I’ll be asking what it’s for then… and probably politely declining it, as I have with most of these mysterious appointments during this pregnancy. I have so much frustration with maternity services right now. There’s a lot of summoning with no explanation, and I’m really looking forward to Bun being here so I no longer have to spend my mornings phoning appointment lines to try and get to the bottom of mysterious letters.

I’m feeling very tired after yesterday’s full day of contractions! I woke up with lower backache this morning, but other than that, I’ve not had any other early labour symptoms. Bun feels very low today – there has been a fair amount of waddling…!
I don’t think there’s much else to report this week. 36 weeks tomorrow and only one week to go until I can have my home birth! I’m such a mixture of emotions right now!
