Baking a Bun // 40 weeks pregnant

Sunday 2nd December 2018

Happy Due Date to me… 40 weeks. I honestly didn’t think I’d see 40 weeks with all of the early labour signs I’ve been experiencing, but here we are. We went for a due date dog waddle earlier, followed by Elf on the sofa in our Christmas pjs. It was pretty great and would be a lovely end to this pregnancy.

Bun is the size of a watermelon, and she certainly feels that big. I feel heavy, slow and ever-so tired now. My hips ache and golly I feel BORING! I can’t wait to be able to walk again, and sit on the floor and play games with the kids again. All I want to do at the moment is hide underneath the duvet and sleep.

The intense, extreme hormones are back today. SO much rage, followed by crazy tears! Phew! I feel completely exhausted tonight from swinging back and forth all day. It doesn’t help that I woke up having contractions again this morning, which then went nowhere. Again. I’m so tired. H-Bear has gone to stay with his grandparents for a few days, which I’m hoping will help me relax a bit…

I think I’m going to spend most of tomorrow practising hypnobirthing scripts and trying to chill out. I feel really tense and stressed this evening. Fingers crossed I can relax enough for Bun to feel like she’s ready to arrive. I’m so ready to meet her.

Saturday 8th December 2018

What a frustrating week of on-and-off contractions, intense hormones and no sleep. Bun has obviously decided that she wants to surpass her siblings and be the longest baked baby in the family! Already another competitive child in our midst…

My lady parts have felt so swollen this week. It feels a little bit like having a blimp between my legs, or what I imagine a three day erection would feel like for a man. Ouchy basically. Very ouchy. Dr Google says it’s just the baby’s head putting pressure on those parts, so nothing to worry about. I don’t remember this part from Busby or H-Bear’s pregnancies though.

I’m really hoping she arrives in the next couple of days – or from about 4pm on Wednesday – so I don’t miss either of the children’s nativities. Busby has a main role, and H-Bear is a Christmas pudding, so I’m desperate to see them! As long as I’m not labouring in the corner of the school hall… that wouldn’t be ideal!

I have my next midwife appointment on Monday (oh, how we all laughed when we booked it because we thought Bun would be here by now) and I’ve been contemplating a sweep. On the one hand I wanted to keep everything intervention-free, but they’re going to start pressuring me to be induced if she doesn’t arrive soon, and that stress won’t help at all. It might be the thing to finally kick everything off…
