Baking a Bun // 41 weeks pregnant

Sunday 9th December 2018

Well here we are at 41 weeks… I never thought I’d get to this point, but these babies are sent to tease us!

Bun is the size of a… well I don’t know because my app stops updating with sizes at 40 weeks! But my bump doesn’t feel too much bigger this week.

I had my 41 week midwife appointment today. I left feeling so deflated as the midwife was unable to perform a sweep because Bun’s head keeps popping in and out of my cervix. We also had to discuss induction… I desperately don’t want to be induced – it’s the antithesis of everything I want from birth. I’ll be researching and reading up on going past 42 weeks, but if we reach that point, I’ll be declining induction for as long as I possibly can.

Oh this baby continues to tease! I’ve been up since 4am with contractions. I went downstairs for ‘toast and gravity’ and fell asleep on the sofa, waking up to breathe through each one. They died down around 10am. Nick took the day off ‘just in case’, so we went for a dog walk to see if that would get things moving again. Sadly, the waddle wasn’t very successful, but I have managed a nap and a hypnobirthing track this afternoon. I just feel so disheartened by it all.

I had my sweep this morning, which feels like it may have been effective. We met another lovely midwife who I haven’t seen before, and she was so positive and supportive over our decision not to be induced. We have an appointment to be monitored at the hospital on Sunday if it comes to that, but fingers crossed she’ll be here by then!

I’ve been looking at my dates and I realised that my period was a week late the month of conception, and had been quite irregular in the lead up, so I think that may well have effected the dating of Bun.

I also had acupuncture this afternoon… Nick was a bit confused as to why I’d booked an acupuncture session as I’m not great with needles, but after doing lots of reading and hearing from other pregnant ladies, I thought “why not?!” It’s possibly not something I would go for again, as I had a very intense reaction to it. I felt so faint and thought I was going to be sick… but since then, lots of people have said that a strong reaction is a good thing! Who knows! Perhaps she’ll arrive tomorrow?!

She’s here! Born at 07.04am this morning, our newest family member swiftly entered the world! Full announcement and birth story to follow.
