‘The War on Plastic’ has been all over the news and in the media recently, with some shocking reports on single use baby wipes. Did you know that the majority of baby wipes on the market contain up to 90% plastic fibres? Once they arrive at landfill, they just sit there, piling up indefinitely.
We’ve been using Mum & You wipes for over six months now. They are 100% biodegradable because they are made with plant fibres, so they can be home composted – and if they end up at landfill, they take just 15 days to biodegrade. Also, because they contain absolutely no plastic, they don’t leave any micro-fibres behind.
They might be biodegradable, but do they work?
Yes. They are exactly the same as non-biodegradable wipes in terms of efficiency – and I’ve found them to be a lot more gentle on Tabby’s skin than when we’ve occasionally used another brand. They are made with 98% water and are fragrance-free, making them perfect for sensitive skin.
Also, I’m not sure why, but I find a pack of M&Y wipes lasts longer than other brands. They are absolutely fantastic, environmentally friendly, and I recommend them to everyone.

What is the point of making a biodegradable product and packing it in plastic? That seems like an oxymoron to me. I truly don’t understand why companies push an ‘eco’ product, yet fall so short on packaging. The only truly eco wipes are cloth ones. And they’re *SO* easy to use! Shove them in the washing machine anytime it’s on…if you’re anything like me then that will be 3-4 times a week! Not wishing to antagonise, I’m just so incredibly exasperated at companies who pose as having eco concerns when their actions fall far shorter.

I agree re packaging - and I truly hope M&Y are taking this onboard as I know it’s something they’ve had a lot of feedback on. However, I *am* glad that at least the wipes, which are the item that pile up the most, are compostable and biodegrade. And in terms of wipes for convenience (on the go/ travelling etc), these are a step in the right direction compared to other brands who have plastic fibres in theirs x
